The Omani rial (OMR) is the local currency. Cash is widely used in Khasab; many small restaurants and markets are cash-only. Larger hotels and some tour operators accept cards, but always carry cash for taxis, small purchases and remote excursions. ATMs are available in town but may be limited, so plan ahead.

Hot and humid near sea level with daytime temperatures often very high (especially June–August); sea breezes can help but outdoor activities should be scheduled early morning or late afternoon. Boat trips are still popular but bring sun protection, hydration and lightweight breathable clothing.

The best tourist season (November–March): milder daytime temperatures, cool nights in the mountains and calm seas that are ideal for cruising, snorkeling and hiking. Book popular boat trips and accommodations in advance during peak months.

Warmening conditions with occasional windy days and good visibility for diving and wildlife spotting; spring blooms are limited but mountain air is pleasant for walks.

Transition from hot to mild weather — water remains warm enough for swimming and snorkeling, and shoulder-season deals may be available before peak winter season.

Vegetarian options are available but limited compared with bigger Omani cities; many restaurants can assemble rice and vegetable dishes or salads, and mezze-style items can be requested. Communicate clearly (in English or simple Arabic) and be prepared to eat eggs, dairy and legumes as protein sources.

Vegan dining is harder — ask for rice, vegetable stews, salads and grilled vegetables and confirm that butter or ghee is not used. Self-catering and buying produce from local stores can help.

Gluten-free needs attention — rice-based dishes are common and safe, but breads and sauces may contain wheat. Always explain allergies clearly and carry any emergency medication; small restaurants may have limited cross-contamination control.

Most food is halal in Khasab; alcohol is restricted and mostly available only at licensed hotels. If halal certification is required, ask staff at larger hotels and restaurants.
